Shakey’s Frozen Custard restaurant in the Hickory Square shopping center off Interstate 30 was robbed at gunpoint late Tuesday, Ben-ton police said.
It is the second armed robbery in the city within a week. Authorities are looking for a clean-shaven white man believed to be in his early 20s and described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with brown hair. Witnesses said the man wore a red shirt, khaki jacket, blue jeans and a baseball cap. According to police, at 7:33 p.m. Tuesday the suspect approached an employee at Shakey’s front counter, pointed a black semi-automatic handgun and told the employee to “give me all the money.” After the employee handed over an undisclosed amount of money, the man reportedly ran behind the business. Another witness told police that the man jumped into the passenger side of a white two-door vehicle that was possibly a Honda Accord or Honda Civic. The witness was unable to get a description of the driver and the vehicle was last seen heading toward the I-30 north service road, police said. This makes the second armed robbery within a week in this area of the city. The first occurred late Friday at the Best Western motel, where two black men committed a robbery, police said. Authorities said the men entered the motel lobby, located at 17036 I-30, around 11:30 p.m. They were said to be wearing hooded jackets, masks and gloves. One of the men reportedly pointed a black, semi-automatic handgun at a clerk and stole an undisclosed amount of money. The men then left in an unknown direction. The clerk reportedly did not know if the suspects left in a vehicle. Authorities said they are looking at the motel video surveillance to help identify or give a better description of the robbers. The clerk reportedly told police that one of the men has a scare on his face. Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the Benton Police Department at 778-1177 or 315-TIPS (8477).
