Benton police told the Courier today that they believe the man who robbed a local bank last Friday is in the Saline County area.
“We have reason to believe he is still here locally,” Sgt. Kevin Russell said. “Our [Benton police] detectives are following a few leads, but I can’t release any of that at this time.” On Friday, a man entered the Summit Bank branch 1114 Arkansas 5-35 North (Old Hot Springs Highway) at 9:50 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money. The note also reportedly indicated that the suspect was armed. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank in an unknown direction. Authorities are still investigating to see if the man had a vehicle nearby. No injuries were reported in the robbery and authorities said the man never displayed a weapon. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, 5 foot 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with light-colored hair, no facial hair and a full set of teeth, Benton police said. He was described as wearing a dark, chooded jacket, dark blue jeans, black flat-soled shoes and a green shirt under the jacket. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call Benton police at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS (8477). Sgt. Kevin Russell said the FBI is assisting in the investigation.
