Man wanted by local cops hurt in Little Rock shooting E-mail
Monday, 26 January 2009
A man wanted out of Saline County on an armed robbery charge was injured late Friday night in a shooting, authorities said.
Hospitalized at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences with injuries is Chris Cahill, 21, of Benton, who had been released from the Saline County Detention Center on Nov. 2.
Cahill had been jailed since Aug. 30 for his involvement in a robbery at the Arch Street Shell Station, said Lt. Scotty Courtney of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office. His bond had been set at $15,000 and he was scheduled for a court hearing.
Cahill reportedly failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A bail bondsman reportedly traced his whereabouts to the Motel 6 on West Markham Street in Little Rock and reported the information to Little Rock police.
When police confronted Cahill on the parking lot of the motel, he allegedly attempted to run over the officers, police said. Five of the officers reportedly shot at Cahill, wounding him in the shoulder and leg.
In keeping with customary procedure for the Little Rock Police Department, all of the officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
A condition report for Cahill was not available by press time nor was information pertaining to additional charges.
In the Aug. 14 robbery that led to Cahill’s original charges, he is accused of entering the convenience store, pulling a knife on a clerk and telling him that “this is a robbery.” Cahill reportedly took the cash register drawer, which contained about $200.
Cahill reportedly left the store in a vehicle driven by another individual, who is also charged with aggravated robbery.
