Man in serious condition after receiving cuts during Super Bowl get-together in Bryant E-mail
Tuesday, 03 February 2009
A man is in serious condition and two suspects are in the Saline County jail today after “horse play” at a Super Bowl party in Bryant on Sunday night led to a fight for life, authorities said.
Allen Ray Powell, 26, and Misty Lynn Chapman, 27, both of Morril-ton, are being held in the county jail on one count of first-degree battery and four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
Powell is being held on $25,000 bond and Chapman on $10,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear in Bryant District Court on March 17.
The victim, Michael Bryan Bol-ton of Little Rock, is listed in critical condition at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Bryant police said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. at 1711 Miller Place during a Super Bowl party. Chief Tony Coffman said officers were called to the scene for a possible stabbing and found Bolton lying in the front yard and “bleeding heavily from his arms and face.”
Officer Mark Looney said he tried to speak to Bolton about the incident but Bolton was incoherent. Officers said at least four children watched the incident.
Chapman reportedly told Detective Todd Crowson that a man named Allen Branson “beat up” on Bolton. Crowson said at least one person “kept changing her story” and police found that Branson is actually Allen Powell. Chapman reportedly admitted that she lied about Powell’s name.
“Apparently, Bolton was [allegedly] roughhousing with a 10-year-old and he was later attacked,” Coffman said. “We are still conducting interviews, but we arrested two and could possibly make more arrests.”
Coffman said Bolton was not stabbed, but had cuts on his right hand and several injuries to his face. He said police believe alcohol contributed to the incident and that additional charges could be filed.
“We are still trying to find out what the motive was,” Coffman said. “Right now, we want [Bolton] to make it through. I hope he pulls through it.”
