Norrell residents getting a pavilion E-mail
Thursday, 05 February 2009
The Lake Norrell community has pulled together to make a dream become reality.
Ground has been broken for a pavilion that will be added to the front of the community center, said Barbara Howell, spokesperson for the Lake Norrell Area Association.
Howell, who also serves as a Saline County justice of the peace, said funds to buy pavilion materials were donated by Terry and Betty Saugey.
Lake Norrell resident Dale Guthrie will build the facility in the growing community west of Avilla, Howell said.
The pavilion will add 2,400 square feet of floor space under one roof, Howell said.
The building is valued at $30,000, she said.
In addition to help from the Saugeys and Guthrie, Nick and Katie Cannat will donate concrete work, Howell said.
“The Building Committee has been working on this for almost two years,” she said.
Howell serves on the committee, along with her husband, Jack, Jim McIntyre, Carolyn Johnson, Brenda Harper, and James Robinson and his wife, Rebecca Brosius.
The pavilion is needed to accommodate the many events the community hosts throughout the year, Barbara Howell said.
“The Lake Norrell Area Association has many events during the year and outgrew the community center,” she said. “Most of the events were held outside, but with bad weather it was a struggle. But this pavilion will make a big impact on the events and the community.”
She added, “Everyone braved the cold weather early Saturday morning to break ground just before the bull dozer got there.”
The Lake Norrell Area Association will dedicate the pavilion and celebrate this event at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the community center and pavilion.
The Saugeys “need to be honored,” Howell said, and “their grandchildren, the Hennelleys, because not many people will just pop up and offer to give their community money. They are a blessing to our community.”
