Gerald D. Gardner, 71, of El Dorado, died Feb. 6, 2009, at his home.  
He was born Oct. 2, 1937 to Lester Lawrence Gardner and Eleanor (Lewis) Gardner in England, Ark.
Mr. Gardner graduated from the University of Arkansas, where he played for the Arkansas Razorbacks from 1956 to 1960. He was a retired Assistant Principal at El Dorado High School and was named Arkansas Assistant Principal of the year in 1993.
Gerald was an elder of the College Avenue Church of Christ for 22 years. He was also a much beloved basketball official and served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve.
Gerald was an avid outdoors man, loved deer hunting, fishing, his church and most of all his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeannie Gardner.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Barbara Ann Gardner, of El Dorado; three daughters, Kim Adkins and husband Jimmy of Memphis, TN, Kristi Laing and husband Andrew of Columbia, MO, and Keri Hill and husband Mike of Clarksville, TN; two brothers, Al Gardner of Helena, AL, and Lester Gardner of Benton; eight grandsons, James, Timothy, and Jesse Adkins, Justin Cheatham, Reagan Laing, Michael, Mathew, and Mason Hill; and a granddaughter Madilynn Hill.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at College Avenue Church of Christ in El Dorado with Dr. Dan Williams and Bro. Kent Jobe officiating. It is under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors of El Dorado. Interment to follow in Arlington Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
