An ordinance that would affect people doing construction work on county road rights-of-way will be considered during today’s Saline County Quorum Court meeting.
Justices of the peace will meet at 6:30 p.m. in courtroom 1 at the courthouse in Downtown Benton. The proposed ordinance would clarify a 2001 ordinance requiring people to obtain a $20 permit from the county judge for right-of-way work. The proposed ordinance also would permit the county judge to require contractor restoration of county roads where no permit is obtained, and also require that a bond be posted to ensure compliance. The proposed measure states that any person or firm who violates the ordinance would be guilty of a misdemeanor and be fined no more than $500. JPs also will consider the following ordinances: •Appropriating $5,000 from the county general fund to the public defender fund. •Re-appropriating $36,518.95 from the 2008 budget to complete tower installations at Sardis and Paron for 911 emergency services •Appropriating $15,000 from the prosecuting attorney’s office asset forfeiture program for sheriff drug control •Re-appropriating $16,923.35 from the 2008 budget to complete the parking lot project at South and East streets. The Quorum Court also will consider a resolution encouraging the Arkansas Legislature to enact a sales tax holiday to exempt certain goods from state sales tax. Several appointments will be voted on as well. They are appointments to the Public Facilities Board, Saline County Planning Board and Lake Norrell Fire District Board.
