County health group turns 6 |

Saline County Hometown Health Coalition will celebrate its sixth year anniversary on Friday.
The event will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the health and education building at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton. Speakers will be Paul Halverson, director and state health officer of the Arkansas Department of Health, and state Sen. Shane Broadway, D-Bryant. “Don’t miss the chance to celebrate the coalition’s accomplishments,” said Eydie Abercrombie, administrator of the Saline County Health Department. The public is invited. The coalition’s mission is to use awareness, education and prevention methods through partnerships with individuals, organizations and businesses, to create a safer, healthier environment. Coalition members include Central Arkansas Development Council, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Saline County Safe Haven, Ministerial Alliance, New Focus of Benton, The Vines and Branches Ministry, Paron community, Lonsdale community, Home Extension Club, Saline Memorial Hospital, Christian Community Care Clinic and so many more organizations and individuals. Since its formation, the coalition has hosted the first Community Resources Fair last September; assisted with back to school events; Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society; Great Strides Walk Campaign; and the Child Passenger Safety Seat inspection program. The group also makes a presence at local events, such as Sparks in the Park benefiting Court Appointed Special Advocates, where it presented Blue Ribbon awards for child abuse and neglect prevention.
