Contestants say they are primed to take part in the first crawfish-eating included in the Benton Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Cajun Feast.
The feast is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Benton’s First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.
The crawfish-eating contest starts at 12:15. The competition is sponsored by Riverside Grocery and will include the following contestants:
•Larry Lagande, sponsored by Jones Glass.
•Chase Shelnutt, sponsored by the Thomas Agency.
•Lisa Toms, sponsored by Phillips-Moudy-Duke Real Estate.
•Daniel Robinson, sponsored by Bank of the Ozarks.
•Michael Perkins, sponsored by Farm Bureau.
•Travis Hester, sponsored by eatmycatfish.com.
•Chris Williams, sponsored by Union Bank.
•Denny Dyer, sponsored by Bo’s Bar-BQ and the Dyer family.
Participants will receive crawfish beads and the winner will receive Cajun Feast’s first crawfish-eating trophy.
The menu for Cajun Feast will be the traditional red beans and rice, seafood gumbo, salad, bread and bread pudding. An alternate menu is available for children.
Tickets are $10 for an adult or $10 for two children. Children under 5 eat free.
Lori Blankenship and Holley Little are co-chairing this year’s project.
Cajun Feast T-shirts are available to purchase. These are imprinted with one-line business ads. The back of the shirts also will carry the message “Serving Chamber = Increased Chamber Value
— Where will you serve this year?”
Cajun Feast is traditionally a major fundraiser for the chamber, said Eddie Black, executive director.
