Local battery suspect surrenders to police E-mail
Friday, 20 March 2009
A Benton man suspected of injuring a 5-year-old child reportedly turned himself in to authorities late Thursday.
Benton police had issued a warrant early Thursday for the arrest of Myron Demond Griffin of Benton after the youngster complained of injury.
The warrant charges Griffin with second-degree battery, a Class D felony, Sgt. Kevin Russell said.
“During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the child had severe bruising to the lower extremities,” Russell said.
Russell also said the child is now in a safe place.
Griffin, 28, is being held in the Saline County jail. He was scheduled to enter a plea today before Benton District Judge Mike Robinson today. Robinson was expected to set bail for Griffin.
Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Benton Police Department at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS.
