The street department for the city of Benton will conduct its annual ‘Spring Cleanup” beginning Monday, April 27.
To be placed on the list for pickup, residents must call the street department at 776-5990. Callers should give their names, addresses and phone numbers in order to be placed on the spring cleanup list. Deadline for signup will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 22. The only items to be picked up will be small stacks of limbs and brush. “We will not pick up trash, leaves or root wads because we have no way to dispose of these items,” Mayor Rick Holland said. All items must be placed at curbside or next to the street by 7 a.m. on April 27. “Since we have a large area to cover, please understand that everyone who is on the list will be served, but there is really no way to guarantee what day your items will be picked up,” Holland said. The cleanup is scheduled for the week of April 27-May 1. “In case of high volume pickups, if your items have not been picked up by Monday, May 4, you can contact the street department to check the status,” the mayor said. “You must call the street department by 3 p.m. April 22 in order to be placed on the cleanup list,” he noted. “All citizens participating must have their items at curbside or next to the street by 7 a.m. on April 27.” Holland noted that residents should not place anything inside trash bags as these will not be picked up. “Crews will not work on Saturday or Sunday or return to streets that have been completed,” he said. “It is our mission to provide this service to our citizens in the best and most efficient manner,” he said. “We need your help in following these guidelines so that we can have a successful spring cleanup in the city.” Letters about the cleanup will be sent to residents in their utilities bills, Holland said.
