Landreth appointed to board E-mail
Monday, 30 March 2009
Jerry Landreth of Trask-wood has been appointed to the Criminal Detention Facility Review Committee for Judicial District 22.
The appointment was made by Gov. Mike Beebe. Landreth’s term will expire Jan. 14, 2013.
A longtime member of the Saline County Quorum Court, Landreth was defeated in a bid for re-election in November 2008.
He said he is happy to serve the county again on the jail review panel.
Landreth and another longtime Quorum Court member, J.R. Walters, who also lost his attempt to gain another term, were honored by the court when their terms expired.
Both received standing ovations in a court meeting and were given appreciation plaques for their service to the county. Together, the two had served a total of 24 years.
Landreth, a Democrat, missed only four Quorum Court meetings in his 10 years as a justice of the peace.
At that final meeting, JP Doug Curtis, R-Benton, commended Landreth for his service.
“Jerry was always quiet, but when he spoke, everyone stopped to listen,” Curtis said. “There is a lot of wisdom behind the quiet man.”
Fellow court members commended Landreth for the “time, effort and energy” he gave to the county.
County Clerk Freddy Burton also commended Landreth for his faithful service to the county.
In Beebe’s letter notifying Landreth of his appointment, he expressed appreciation for his willingness to serve the public.
“I am counting on your wise counsel and advise as you accept this position of responsibility,” Beebe said. “I look forward to your help and involvement as we work toward building a better future for all Arkansans.”
