Benton boy, 8, meets Beebe E-mail
Wednesday, 01 April 2009
One Benton boy knows the true meaning of “ask and you shall receive.”
Jacob Price, 8, a second-grader at Angie Grant Elementary School, wrote Gov. Mike Beebe. However, instead of just receiving a reply letter, Jacob was invited to meet with the governor at the state Capitol.
His mother, Jamie Price, said Jacob wasn’t shy at all. “He asked a lot of questions and enjoyed the visit.”
Jacob said his favorite part was sitting in the governor’s chair.
Jacob has Type 1 diabetes and indicated in his original letter that he wants to help find the cure.
Beebe sent a letter to Jacob after their meeting. He said, “I know many people with diabetes, even some children with Type 1 diabetes, like you have. I also know it’s not fun to take shots every day, and I am proud of you for being a role model for other people your age who are also facing difficult situations.”
Jacob’s favorite subjects in school are math and science, he said.
He wanted to write the governor after studying government in school. “He became really interested,” his mother said, “and said he wanted to meet the governor, so I told him he’d have to write a letter.”
He asked questions like what laws the governor makes, what he does every day and whether he likes to fish.
After meeting the governor, Jacob enjoyed eating catfish at the Capitol.
Beebe encouraged Jacob “to keep working hard in school, to set high goals for yourself, and to learn as much as you can.”
