A Benton teenager was sentenced after pleading guilty to negligent homicide in connection with a fatal traffic accident in summer 2008.
Bradley Drennon, 18, will serve 12 months’ probation, perform community service, attend drug and alcohol treatments and pay fines and court costs. Saline County Circuit Court Judge Grisham Phillips sentenced Drennon. Arkansas State Police said Drennon was driving at a high rate of speed on Arkansas 298 after 11 p.m. on July 15, 2008 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Erin Merritt,15, of Benton and Robert J. Wheeler, 28, of Malvern were passengers in the vehicle. Merritt died at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Wheeler was transported to Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton and Drennon was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Drennon was represented in court Monday by public defender Pete Lancaster of Benton. Saline County Deputy Prosecutor Andy Gill represented the state.
