Reception will honor outgoing library director E-mail
Monday, 18 May 2009
A reception honoring Julie Hart, director of the Saline County Library System, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton.
Hart is resigning to accept a similar position in her home city of Paducah, Ky. She will be the director of McCracken County Public Library.
The event is open to the public and no registration is required.
A presentation will take place at 5 p.m. as part of the celebration, according to Erin Waller, adult services librarian.
“Julie has headed waves of change at the Saline County Library in her 13 years as director,” Waller said. “I have only been here to witness a small portion of her achievements, but I have seen more than enough to attest to her character and abilities.
“She is deserving of this recognition, even if it is only a small token of appreciation,” she said.
Library Technical Assistant Stacy Childress, a 15-year Saline County Library employee, said Hart will be missed by staff and patrons alike.
“The library has come a very long way since Julie became director, and people have taken notice,” she said. “It’s hard to imagine our community — the library community and beyond — without her, but we are all extremely happy for her and for the library she is now going to serve.”
Waller said patrons and community members are welcome to come and go at the reception and will be able to visit with Hart.
“I hope everyone will come by and give their goodbyes and well wishes,” she noted. “It is an opportunity to close the book the way it should be closed, on a long-standing chapter of Saline County history.”
The library is at 1800 Smithers Drive.
Call the library at 778-4766 or 847-2166 or visit www.saline.lib.ar.us.
