Cpl. Drew Furr of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office is on medical leave for injuries suffered in a single-vehicle accident early Tuesday.
Furr was released from Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton late Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Bruce Pennington said that around 2:50 a.m. Furr was en route to a domestic dispute call in Traskwood when he lost control of his patrol car. Furr never made it to Traskwood, but took a trip to the hospital instead. “He rounded a curve there in Haskell when the vehicle ran off the road,” Pennington said. “The vehicle hit a telephone pole and a tree.” Furr was “patched up” at Saline Memorial with 10 staples in his head and numerous stitches in his hands, Pennington said. The patrol vehicle was totaled, he added. “It is up to the insurance company now how to dispose of the vehicle,” the sheriff said. “We’ll have to replace that car, and we’ll probably have someone sharing a [patrol] vehicle until we replace the totaled one.” Pennington said Furr likely will return to work within a short time. He said another officer responded to the dispute in Traskwood. The Arkansas State Police investigated the accident. No citations were issued.
