Linda Beggs, a former Pine Haven Elementary fourth-grade math teacher, holds a plaque she received in honor of the 24 years she spent in the Bauxite School District.
Linda Beggs, who taught at Bauxite for 24 years, was honored at the recent sixth-grade graduation ceremony with a plaque from the Bauxite School District. Beggs, who taught a total of 28 years, retired shortly before the beginning of the 2008-09 school year because of injuries related to a car wreck. Michael Driggers, principal at Pine Haven Elementary School, presented the plaque to Beggs. Driggers said Beggs is known and respected for her strategies and techniques in teaching, which was often referred to at Pine Haven as “Beggs Math.” Year after year, Beggs’ fourth-grade math scores ranked highly among advanced and proficiency rates on the ACTAAP compared to other scores throughout the state. Because of her successful teaching strategies, Beggs was a 2006 state nominee for the Presidental Award for Excellence in teaching math. Driggers said if one could summarize Beggs’ teaching career, it would be best reflected by this quote: “A teacher’s deeds are like stones cast into the pool of time. Though they themselves may disappear, their ripples extend to eternity.”
