Bryant talks water E-mail
Thursday, 11 June 2009
Bryant City Council will consider several ordinances centering on development and improvement of the city when it meets today.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Boswell Municipal Complex.
Many items are part of larger projects, including one that would install safety fencing along the channel bridge to complete the Hidden Creek project. It’s part of a major project to improve stormwater drainage. The cost would not exceed $9,800.
An update on an overall stormwater management project will be given by Public Works Director Richard Penn.
Penn also plans to ask the council to approve a drafted request to be sent out to engineering firms on what the city could do to improve roads.
“There are several roads in town that need attention,” Penn said, including the Raymar overpass and the Springhill overpass connecting to Woodland Park.
“This will be at zero cost to the city,” he said. “We just want to see what our options are.”
The council also will consider approving first-year payment, in the amount of $82,548, for a water allocation onto Lake DeGray.
Like many cities and counties, Bryant is looking at ways to secure a long-term water source for the future, Penn noted. If the council gives permission to buy the allocation, then Bryant will have its own storage volume in Lake DeGray, securing 15 million gallons per day.
Tonight’s approval would ensure that when a pipeline is built, the city of Bryant will have its own source of water, Penn said. “We’re talking 20 years down the road,” he added.
In other business, the council will consider the first reading of an ordinance establishing an awards program for the city. Awards would include the Charles Broadway Community Excellence Award, the Outstanding Achievement Award, and the mayor’s Employee of the Month/Year Award. The ordinance also would include recognition programs for the city.
A resolution will be considered to revise the policy for on-call pay for the police department’s criminal investigation division and warrants division.
In old business, the council will consider freezing promotions until a Job Evaluation and Salary Administration Program proposal is fully implemented.
All meetings are open to the public.
