Charley Lee Jones, age 93, of Sardis went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Charley was born in Fort Townsend, Okla., to his parents Charley W. Jones and Inez Floyd.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps. In his time with the Army he was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, Siapan and Iwo Jima, and was honorably discharged in February 1946.
Charley is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Alma (Achterberg) Jones; his parents; and his brother, Raymond “Pee-wee” Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived by his children, Charles Jones (Martha) of Benton, Jimmie Jones (Janie) of Sardis and Alma Marie Diemer of North Little Rock; mrandchildren, Mark Jones (Karen), Gasha Brown (Steve) and Sally Morphew (Jody), all of Benton, Gretchen Leech (Doug) of Little Rock and Jeri Lynn Sturch (Shawn) of Butlerville. He is also survived by his siblings, Thurman Jones of Mayflower, Orphelia Hood of Talco, Texas, Clifford Jones (Jean) of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Charlene Wesson of Winnsboro, Texas, and Bill Jones (Bobbie Lee), also of Winnsboro; and nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Charley’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Sardis United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sue D. Howe officiating. Burial will follow at McPhearson Cemetery in Sardis.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dial & Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Arkansas 5 North, Bryant, AR, (501) 847-9099.
