Sept. 17, 1917 - June 14, 2009
Virgie Kerr passed away surrounded by family and friends at her daughter’s home in Sun Valley, Calif. Her death was attributed to complications due to age and a recent stroke. She was 91. Born to Cora (Henson) and Alfred Sheppard in Liberty, Ark., in Grant County near Sheridan, she was the second of eight children. Virgie lived and worked on farms growing up, survived the Great Depression and the World War II years. In 1945 she married Carlee Kerr and together they had five children. They eventually moved to the San Fernando Valley (Southern California) in 1955 living in the communities of Pacoima, Mission Hills, Sylmar and Sun Valley. She worked in a variety of jobs prior to marrying but her greatest role and the one she was most proud of was being a mother and a housewife. She was selfless in her devotion to her children and grandchildren; proud of each of their accomplishments and always remained a simple country girl at heart. Virgie is survived by her five children, Genny Rice of Hutchinson, Kan., Linda Nolte of Round Rock, Texas, David Kerr of La Pine, Ore., Alice Molina of Sun Valley, Calif., and Harry Kerr of Lancaster, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Margie Edgin, Alma-Jane Turbyfill and Lucille Guerrieri, all of Benton, Ark. Virgie’s ashes will be interred next to her mother at Poe Cemetery in Sheridan, Ark., near her birthday this September. Arrangements by Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Mission Hills, CA 91345, (818)361-7387. PAID OBITUARY
