The second annual Faith and Freedom service honoring our nation’s independence will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Christian Life Center at Benton’s First United Methodist Church.
The public is invited. A potluck brunch at 10 in the fellowship hall will precede the worship service. The U.S. flag will be posted by Capt. Alan Tetkoskie and Lt. Jeff Combs of the North Little Rock Fire Department. Following the flag presentation, the Pledge of Allegiance will be recited by the congregation and the national anthem will be sung. Music for the service will be provided by Tetkoskie on bagpipes, the combined choirs of First United Methodist Church (the Sanctuary Choir, Recycled Voices, praise team and youth choir) and a women’s trio (Jill Ruhlman, Kristi Ponder and Julie Atkins), accompanied by George Qandah (bass), Pat Downey (pennywhistle), Michael Qandah on drums and Paul Atkins (guitar). Jennifer Amox will be featured on flute and piccolo as she and pianist Sandy Knoernschild accompany the combined choirs. The church’s second Faith and Freedom award will be presented by Dr. George McCoy, senior minister, and the Rev. William Cato, associate minister. The award is presented to a person who exemplifies exceptional service to church and community. Last year’s recipient was Patti Hyatt. The church is at 200 N. Market St. A nursery is available for the brunch and service.
