With the Fourth of July holiday here, Benton police are reminding residents that it is illegal to shoot fireworks within the city limits.
Fireworks also may not be sold in Benton, according to a 2004 ordinance. Any person violating any of the fireworks laws could be fined from $50 to $200 fine or jailed for up to 90 days, police said. Lt. Kevin Russell said there will be additional officers on patrol this weekend and at the city’s fireworks display at Tyndall Park on Saturday night. The ordinance permits the city of Benton to conduct such fireworks displays. In Bryant, fireworks may be discharged from noon to 10 p.m. July 3-5. In Haskell, fireworks may be discharged within the city limits only on private property of the owner or with the owner’s permission when discharge is conducted in a safe and sane manner from noon to 10 p.m. June 25-July 5. People may shoot fireworks in Shannon Hills only on the Fourth. Alexander has no restrictions as do Bauxite and the county.
