Flapjack breakfast Saturday helps school children in Benton area E-mail
Thursday, 09 July 2009
Saturday morning seems like an ideal time for a pancake breakfast.
Applebee’s is offering one this Saturday and proceeds will benefit underprivileged school children in Benton.
The Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. and tickets are $7.
“We need your support to help raise money for backpacks and school supplies four underprivileged children,” said Oveta Pledger, president of the Ralph Bunche Community Action Committee.
Pledger also has tickets in packages of 10 for businesses.
This is the first breakfast fundraiser for the Ralph Bunche group. In previous years, Applebee’s hosted Dining to Donate nights.
“I commend them for their involvement and helping the community,” Pledger said.
A ticket to the flapjack fundraiser will get diners three pancakes, sausage and choice of milk, coffee or juice.
Another fundraiser, Battle of Pins, recently ended. “We raised about $1,500,” Pledger said.
Seven participating financial institutions had pin-ups available for customers to buy for a minimum donation of $1.
The events are being held in partnership with Central Arkansas Development Council.
The Back to School Picnic will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, at Ralph Bunche Community Park in Benton. About 1,000 backpacks were given to students at last year’s picnic.
Participating banks were Metropolitan National, Arvest, Regions, Alcoa Federal Credit Union, Hurricane Creek Federal Credit Union, First Security and Bank of the Ozarks.
Awards were given to the bank that collected the most donations, top pin-up seller and the bank that came up with the most creative strategy to sell pin-ups. Metropolitan is the top financial institution, Jane Austin with Arvest Bank is the top pin-up seller and Hurricane Creek received the most creative award.
