Thirty-one firefighters from Salem, Bryant, Crows, Paron, Lake Norrell, Collegeville, Alexander and West Pulaski douse a fire at the home of Rick Williams at 9128 Congo Road in Salem Sunday afternoon for more than six hours. The fire call came in about 1:30 p.m., officials said. Bryant Fire Chief Randy Cox said the home was between 10,000 and 11,000 square feet, had heavy timber and tongue-and-groove walls and ceilings and contained numerous early-1800s antique furnishings inside; he said he considered the home a total loss, estimating the damages into the millions. No one was at home at the time of the fire and the owner could not be reached for comment. The cause of the fire was undetermined as of press time.
