Peggy Pate, a representative of Saline County Master Gardeners, judges horticulture exhibits at the Saline County Fair week before last.

The horticulture competition in the Saline County Fair drew a record number of entries this year, said Peggy Pate, a representative of Saline County Master Gardeners.

“We had a lot of interest in the show and a lot of entries in both the junior and adult divisions,” Pate said.
Seven Best of Show awards were given in the adult division, Pate said.
They are as follows:
•Pineapple, Victor Hill.
•Ginger, Sandra Morris.
•Orchid, William Bennett.
•Angel wing begonia, Julie Tucker.
•Coleus, Jane Wood.
•Mixed pot, Jane Wood.
•Cut flowers, Barbara Johnson.
Best of show winners in the junior division were:
•Sunflower, Lisa Scroggin.
•Watermelon, Noelle Scroggin.
Blue ribbon winners in the junior division were won in the following categories by:
•Eggs, Jacob Hinds, Ethan Cauffiel, Hollie right, Jessica Prichard, Elizabeth Moseley.
•Fruits, Tanner Nally, tomatoes and pears; James Nash, tomatoes; Haley Simmons, grapes; Noelle Scroggin, watermelon.
•Vegetables, James Nash, beans; Cheyenne Philpot, okra and hot peppers; Daylan Ward, potatoes.
•Field Crops, Liza Scroggin, sunflower, pumpkin, gourds; Noelle Scroggin, gourds; Cloe Humphry, gourds; Brennan Humphrey, gourds.
•Herbs, Alex Cordell, basil.
•Cut flowers, Brennan Humphry, Amber Johnson, Emily Johnson, Cloe Humphry.
•Potted plants, Jennifer Gilson, Dawn Ward.
•Hanging baskets, Libby Curtis.
