Members of the Salem Fire Department work to put out burning Christmas tree during a live controlled burn Saturday evening in the Salem Elementary School parking lot. The department invited firefighters from Enola, Vilonia and Benton to participate. The burn was a training exercise for the firefighters to learn how to fight blazes that are fed with LP propane. “We have a lot of people in our area who still use LP gas. A lot of people in our west district use the gas,” firefighter Jill Moravek said.
