Alexander police concluded a six-month investigation on Friday morning with the seizing of three marijuana plants from the home of Ben McClendon at 16009 Lindsey Road.
The 38-year old white male told authorities he had been growing the plants for 10 years, and this was the first time he had been caught. Assistant Chief Thomas Leath, Cpl. Taylar Shell and Sgt. Jerry Rapier also found three germinating marijuana plants at the scene. Leath said the suspect had a security camera set up outside the house and was able to see the police pulling up to his residence. McClendon then began to pull the plants from the buckets and hide them under his clothes. Upon reaching his door, the police found the door was reinforced with a half-inch piece of plywood and 2-by-4s placed behind the plywood. McClendon cooperated with authorities and is now at the Saline County Detention Center in Benton. The amount of bond was unknown at press time.
