Benton High School Pep Steppers perform a pom routine Saturday an invitational tournament hosted by the Bryant School District. The Steppers, under the coaching of Laura Stilwell, won two first-place awards, a second-place honor and a third-place award.

Dance teams from more than 30 Arkansas school districts converged in Bryant on Saturday for an invitational dance tournament.

Several categories were open for judging at the event. Included were kick, pom, military, jazz and hip-hop.
Among the high school participants were the Bryant High School Stinger Steppers, Benton High School Pep Steppers and the Glen Rose High School dance squad.
The competition was open to both junior high and senior high dance teams.
The Bryant High School dance team, which competes in the 7A division, won first-place awards in three categories: pom, jazz and hip-hop.
Laura Wooten is the team’s coach.
Benton High School’s Pep Steppers, participating in the 6A division, won first-place honors in two categories: kick and military; a second-place award in pom; and a third-place in hip-hop.
Laura Stilwell is Pep Stepper coach.
Glen Rose High School’s dance squad, which participated in the 3A-4A division, took two third-place honors: jazz and hip-hop.
Benton Junior High School’s dance team, under the direction of Meagan McGuire, captured first-place awards in several categories. The team competed in military, kick, pom and hip-hop divisions.
Bryant Middle and Bethel Middle schools of the Bryant district competed in the junior high division, and the Bryant Junior Varsity team, which includes ninth-graders, also won awards at the event.
Many of the teams will be competing again in two weeks when Benton High School hosts an invitational dance tournament Oct. 24 at the BHS arena.
Competition will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
