Halloween festivites begin early for Saline County children. On Thursday, Benton and Bryant will host Halloween events for little ghouls and goblins of all ages.
Downtown Benton will host its fourth annual Spook City from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is expected to draw thousands of costume-clad visitors. Spook City is geared toward families with children under 12. More than 100 local businesses, churches and civic groups will provide free treats and activities. Organizers say the event is a safe alternative for traditional trick-or-treating, and local law enforcement patrolling the area. All of the one-way sections of Sevier, Market, West South and Main Streets will be blocked off at 4 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring their own trick-or-treat bags, though a limited supply of bags will be given away at the event. For more information, call 317-1696. On the same evening, families are invited to the fifth annual Monster Madness at Mills in Bryant. The event is hosted by the Bryant Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant and the Bryant Parks Department. Trick-or-treating between business booths begins at 5:30 p.m. For $3, children can enjoy Munchkinland, which will feature inflatables, digging for treasure, ghouls and pumpkins tic tac toe toss and other games. The haunted hayride on the trail will begin at dark and will end at 9:30 p.m. The Halloween costume contest will begin at 7 p.m. There will be divisions for different ages in the competition. A bonfire under the supervision of the Bryant Fire Department, will be burn between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. For more information, call 847-4702.
