State Rep. Dan Greenberg, who currently represents District 31, formally announced his candidacy for the Arkansas Senate on Thursday night at Saline County Republican headquarters in Benton.
Greenberg, 31, is seeking the seat currently held by Shane Broadway, D-Bryant. If he captures the Republican Party’s nomination in the primary election, he will face either state Rep. Dawn Creekmore, D-Bauxite or Todd Witham in the general election as the candidate structure stands now. Greenberg said that “nobody can really replace Shane Broadway, who’s widely respected. He’s a hard worker and a good listener and he treats everyone fairly.” “He realizes that every person deserves attention and respect,” he said, which Greenberg said he would continue if he is elected to the position. Greenberg said he supports integrity in state government and is an advocate for volunteer service. He said he and his family have raised thousands of dollars for the Dorcas House in Little Rock and he has been a volunteer at the Christian Community Care Clinic in Benton, “where there are incredible displays of heroism every day.” He pledged to be a public servant “who will scrutinize the budget,” promote economic growth, encourage job growth and support lower taxes. He has said he is running for the State Senate for the only reason anybody should ever run for office: “ I believe I would do a good job. I am the best qualified candidate to deliver what the majority of the people in my state senate district want and deserve: a conservative, capable, principled public servant with a record of achievement. At the start of the brief gathering, Greenberg expressed appreciation to Saline County Judge Lanny Fite for his leadership. He noted that Fite, a Republican, received the support of all the Saline County justices of the peace in his last election. He recognized Tom Lesh and Barbara Howell for their current service and also expressed appreciation to J.R. Walters, a former JP. “They all do a good job,” he said. He also acknowledged the presence of his wife, Marjorie, and three chldren, Jacob, Robert and Rachel.
