COURIER: What we’re thankful for E-mail
Friday, 27 November 2009
We at the Courier would like to express our gratitude for a few things today, this day of Thanksgiving.
We are all grateful for you, our readers. We are thankful for the freedom, the opportunity and the privilege of being able to report your local news to you on a daily basis.
We are grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.
And we are thankful to be part of such a wonderful staff of people.
Here’s what some of us, individually, are thankful for:
Brian Bloom: The kindness of strangers and the love of family; the blessing of health; and that, despite difficult times, faith and hope will fortify us.
Kristal Kuykendall: The love and support of my family and friends, despite my occasional failures; a job that is rewarding and fulfilling; and a staff that makes it all worthwhile.
Lynda Hollenbeck: That my spouse and I have had 34 years together and look forward to more; that this year on Thanksgiving Day, we’ll be celebrating the first birthday of our grandson, Lucas Scott Campbell, and that many of our family members can be there to enjoy this special time together; and especially for cherished friends I grew up with, who still remain close — truly as close as family.
Amanda Hall: My mother, who goes above and beyond for me; the newly found peace in my life; and the partner of a lifetime, my pug, Bruiser.
Veneta Dawson: That I am blessed enough to still be here, and to still have my friends and loved ones.
Richard Duke: For a loving wife who still laughs at my attempts at humor; for live music, which is as spiritual as it gets outside of a church; and for friends, both near and Facebook far, because never before have I been able to keep up with so many people that I care about.
Mary Bloomquist: That I was lucky enough to be born in the United States, where I have freedom and the right to believe in my God and Savior and for the soldiers that have fought my freedom and rights; that I still have a job and wonderful coworkers in these times when others do not; and for my family and friends who make my life worth living, for without them it would be a cruel, cruel world.
LeLe Cole: For my wife, Deidra, and my daughter, Kara.
Jaime Smith: For my children and that they’re happy and healthy; for my job so I can support my family; and for my family because they’ve been with me through the hard times.
Molly Fleming: For a job in a county that appreciates the work done by the newspaper staff; for my family, who supports me in whatever endeavors I face; and that I don’t have to eat school cafeteria food anymore.
Deidra Pitts: For life, love and happiness.
Katie Lloyd: For my new husband, Ross, and our wonderful wedding; for my huge family that always has 25-plus people at every get-together; and for my cat that curls up with me in the mornings and makes me late for work.
Melissa Walls: For grace and mercy from my Saviour, Jesus Christ; for my wonderful family and friends and the relationship I have with my beautiful granddaughter, Haley; and that I work with people whom I consider my second family.
Tonya Fleming: For my mother, because she’s the best support system I could hope for; for my boyfriend, because he’s my soulmate; and for my “bestest” friend in the whole wide world, Kim.
Sharon McGuire: That my dad, who is 88, is now out of rehab and doing well back in his own home; for my family and grandchildren — especially the new baby girl expected in a few weeks; and that in these tough economic times, my husband and I are still employed.
Nate Olson: For my son, 10 months old, because I’ve wanted to be a dad for a long time and it’s been more joy than I ever could have imagined; and for having my family nearby.
Sam Pierce: For my Dad; for my job because being unemployed is no fun; and for my friends, who I miss!
Shawna Bell: For my husband, Tony, who is my voice of reason and has loved and supported me unconditionally for nine years; for my stepson Torey, who accepted me into his life without question and has been the son I always hoped for; and for my mother, who is strong, caring and everything I hope to be one day.
Greg Farmer: For my job, my boss and my coworkers; for the manner and means to help others who are not as blessed as I; for my life — looking past the present and preparing for the future.
Keith Carpenter: For my two boys, Josh and Jacob.
Caroline Zilk: To be back in Central Arkansas after being gone for the better part of the past four years, because there really is no place like home, and because for the most part, Arkansans understand each other and do their best to help one another when needed; for my parents, because I’m blessed that we have a friendship as well as the typical parent/child relationship; and for my parents’ health, because my father has battled several forms of cancer in the past as well as diabetes, and he has been completely healthy this past year.
Shawna McKim: For my family and friends.
Matt Burks: That everyday I learn more about God’s message in the Bible and get closer to Jesus Christ; for my two beautiful (and mostly well-behaved) daughters, Audrey and Sara Elizabeth, and my lovely wife, Amy; and for the things I learn everyday (knowledge is power) and that the Arkansas Razorbacks football team finally have a true leader in Coach Bobby Petrino (yes, I am a die-hard fan!).
Penny Harbison: For my fiance, Will, and his love; for my kids and their joy; for my family and friends and their support; and for my crew and their hard work.
Vicki Dorsch: That my mom is recovering in a local hospital from an almost-fatal stroke; that I have a job  that allows me flexible hours to be with my family as needed; and that I’m FREE to live my life as I please.
Kimberly Pitts: For my beautiful family.
Pat Stuckey: For my family, of course, because I am so fortunate to have my husband of 25 years, Chuck, especially since he’s been ill for so long, and my granddaughter, J.J.; that in these economic times, I have a job, even though I drive almost an hour one way, and that I love the work I do and am glad to be here; and that at my age and after being at this job for over 39 years, I still have my health.
Sterling Tomlin: For my family.
