On a cold, rainy Wednesday, Matt Caple, 25, of Benton received an exciting phone call. Special to the Courier Dianne Roberts, left, of Dianne Roberts Art Studio & Gallery, left, and Janet Osbrooks of Books & Baubles are happy to give Matt Caple of Benton the items he won in the Downtown Benton Merry Merchants Giveaway. He was the closest to guess the actual value of the items in the window of the old Gingles department store.
The call came from Dianne Roberts, who told him he had just won the Downtown Benton Merry Merchants’ Giveaway. The giveaway included donations from 17 stores in downtown Benton. To win the prizes, Caple had to take a guess at how much the gifts totaled. The gifts were displayed in the window of the former Gingles department store on South Street in Benton. Caple placed a guess at $1,147, and the actual total was $1,149. “It was a total guess,” Caple said. Caple’s eyes were all aglow as he saw the gifts we won. He instantly started to name family members who would receive the gifts for Christmas once he was able to take them home. The gifts he won ranged from a shirt and tie set from Rhea’s Men’s Store to a print of the Old Bridge and necklace set from Dianne Roberts Studio and Gallery, to a gift certificate to Burger Shack. Not every store in Downtown Benton donated, Roberts said, but others that donated included: Allied Glass & Frame Shop, Blinds Etc., S&S Sparks Jewelers, Posey’s Service, Banana Graphics, Shear Impressions Salon, Rhea’s Men’s Store, Books & Baubles, R and J Pawn and Loan, Salon M1, Holly Pace Fine Art, Studio Amy K, Dollar General Store, Initial It and Paradise Pets.
