Embra E. Williamson, 96, of Shannon Hills, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010. He was born April 9, 1913, in Jonesboro, AR, to the late Charles and Mabel McElroy Williamson. During World War II, Embra served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Embra worked for many years as an Instrument Repair Technician for NASA in White Sands, NM, and retired when he was 55 years old. During his time there, he worked closely with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin daily and taught them how to operate the equipment on the space shuttle. The three even carpooled to work together for a while. After his retirement from NASA, Embra owned and operated a camera repair clinic until late in his 70’s. A loving father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Embra was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Beatrice Williamson; and one brother, Billy Davis. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Manson and husband William of Hot Springs, and Debby Riley of Alexander; four granddaughters, Lucretia Talley of Fort Smith, Vicky Howell of Bauxite, Kim Salinas of Benton and Shelly Bradley of Bryant; one niece, Peggy Moser of Las Vegas, NV; twelve great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy 5 North, Alexander (455-1067). Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday at the funeral home with Pastors Perry Black and Lance Goddard officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
