Mother owl cares for youngster after he tumbles out of nest E-mail
Saturday, 07 April 2007

HOOT, a baby owl, has found a home away from home inside a hollow limb.
J.D. Harris of Benton thought his dogs barking meant they had another squirrel treed.

Harris’  rat terrier and Mountain Cur dogs bark like they were barking Monday when they have a squirrel cornered.
Much to Harris’ surprise, the dogs were barking at a baby hoot owl — since aptly named Hoot — that fell from the nest in a tree in Harris’ yard.
The mother owl is in a hollow tree above where the baby owl fell.
Hoot seeks refuge inside a hollow limb.
The mother has raised her young ones in the same tree for the past three years, Harris said.
Harris called the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and was told to leave the baby owl where he found it and the mother will take care of it.
Harris said the mother watches Hoot and feeds him often.
