Bauxite man, 27, still missing after 5 weeks E-mail
Monday, 19 February 2007
Hec Grant, 27, of Bauxite hasn’t been seen by his family in 35 days. His mother, Debbie Grant, fears the worst.     Hec Grant, 27, of Bauxite hasn’t been seen by his family in 35 days. His mother, Debbie Grant, fears the worst.
He called home at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 13 and told his wife, Autumn, that he was at a house at 6777 E. Draw near Chicot Road and Arch Street Pike and would be home soon, his mother said, and hasn’t been heard from since. He had gone to the residence to clear up a misunderstanding about the ownership of a DVD player, she said, but he indicated when he called that everything was fine.
The next morning his empty, 1986 two-tone brown Dodge van was empty and backed into a place near the door of The Country Store at 11901 E. Sardis Road.
Debbie Grant said she and her daughter, Angela Price, reported him missing to Capt. Jason Massey of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Jan. 15.
She said Massey called that afternoon with the news that a store employee had reported the van in the parking lot.
Hec Grant is a stay-at-home dad who is married to Autumn Grant, his mother said. They have a 2-year-old, Jade.
“Hec is a home boy,” Debbie Grant said. “He stays close to home. He would not have walked off and left the van like that. That’s not like him.
“We want anyone who has seen or heard anything or knows anything about him to call because we need to bring our boy home.”
Detective Mike Frost of the sheriff’s department said the sheriff’s criminal investigation division is still receiving leads.
“They are still coming in,” Frost said. “There aren’t as as many as there were at first, but we are still getting calls on it and we are following up on them.
“But so far, none of the leads has developed into anything that has helped us find Mr. Grant.”
Frost urged anyone with information to call the department’s criminal investigation division at 303-5608 during business hours or the Saline County Detention Center at 303-5642 on nights and weekends.
Grant is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs approximately 130 pounds and has brown eyes and short, brown hair, authorities said. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans.
Grant has been listed as a missing person with the Arkansas Crime Information Center, officials said.
Debbie Grant said the sheriff’s department had done a good job of following up leads and keeping in touch with the family.
“I have been in touch with Sheriff Phil Mask about every other day,” she said. “Either I call him or he calls me to tell me whatever has happened since we last talked.”
Grant and her daughter, Price, said they hope to collect money and turn it in to Mask so that a reward can be offered to anyone who reports information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone who is responsible for the disappearance of Hec Grant.
“We are gathering money for a reward and have set a goal of $2,000 by the time we go see Sheriff Mask on Monday,” Price said. “We probably have around $1,500 now.”
