Justices of the peace will consider several appointments Tuesday night and will vote on an ordinance outlining uniform allowances for sheriff??s department personnel.
The Saline County Quorum Court meeting will begin at 6:30 in courtroom 1 at the courthouse in Benton. JPs will decide whether to reappoint Betty English, Lynn Hart and retired Maj. Gen. Thomas B. Arwood to the Saline County Veterans Board. Each person has served one term on the board. If reappointed, the board members? terms would expire on Dec. 31, 2009, 2010 and 2011, respectively. JPs will consider appointing James Wilder and Louise Davis, both of Alexander, to the Northeast Saline County Fire Improvement District Board of Directors. Wilder would succeed Thomas R. Speer Sr., whose term expired Nov. 1, 2006. He is a former board member and has been a member of the Northeast Saline County Volunteer Fire Department since 1988. Davis would succeed JP J.R. Walters of Alexander, whose term also expired Nov. 1, 2006. Davis is president of the Vimy Ridge Extension Homemakers Club, told County Judge Lanny Fite in a letter that she regularly attends fire board meetings. An ordinance giving new county law enforcement personnel up to $1,000 in uniform allowance will be considered by JPs. New personnel would use the money to buy uniforms and equipment, and would have to do so within the first 60 days of employed, according to the ordinance. The ordinance also stipulates that all county law enforcement personnel would receive $250 in taxable income every six months for any uniform or equipment purchases. Personnel at the new Saline County Detention Center are not included in the ordinance, which states that their uniform allowance would be approved separately by the Quorum Court. In other business, JPs will vote on adding several roads to the county road system.
