Image
Lt. Mike Kassell talks with Billy Havard of Malvern, the driver of a pickup truck that struck a 6-year-old boy when he ran across West South Street in front of Havard. Matthew Lopez was taken from the accident scene by Med-Tran ambulance service to the Benton Airport and then flown by Med-Flight to Arkansas Children?s Hospital in Little Rock. The youngster reportedly suffered a fractured jaw and breaks to both legs. Hospital officials today listed him in serious condition. Kassell said no citations were issued and that the driver could not have avoided the accident that occurred at 5:34 p.m. In addition to Kassell, officers at the scene included Jason New and Melanie Canada.
