Christmas parade scheduled Dec. 3 E-mail
Tuesday, 06 November 2007
Familiar holiday tune “Jingle Bell Rock” will be the theme for this year’s Christmas parade through Downtown Benton.
The parade will kick off the annual Celebration of Lights spectacle for the Saline County Courthouse at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3.
People wanting to participate in the parade must fill out a registration form by Friday, Nov. 30.
A $5 registration fee will apply to cover expenses, which include cost of prizes for winners of Best of Show.
Three out-of-town judges will select first-, second- and third-place finishers who best capture the theme, Lisa Baldwin with Downtown Benton Inc. said. Enthusiasm and originality will be the determining factors in the selection, she said. First-place participants will receive $100. All finishers will receive a trophy.
Registration forms will be available at the following downtown businesses: Benton Area Chamber of Commerce, Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio, Wallpaper for Less, Blinds Etc. & Market Street Gallery, S&S Sparks Jewelry Store, Rhea’s Men’s Store, Shear Impressions Beauty Salon, Paradise Pets, Diane Robert’s Art Studio, C.J.’s Fashions, Maximum Nutrition, From Belly to Baby, Rumors Beauty Salon, Rooster’s Barber Shop, Pet Palace, ProCleaners, Colonial Cleaners, Cleo’s Furniture and Old-Timers’s Activities and Crafts.
Completed registration forms with the $5 participation fee may be mailed to Downtown Benton Inc., PO Box 2031, Benton, AR 72018 or turned into Wallpaper for Less at 119 North Market St.
No parade participants are allowed to dress up as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, Baldwin said. Throwing candy also won’t be permitted. All rules of participation will be available with the registration form.
    For more information, call 303-2180.
