It’s difficult to believe that we’re rapidly approaching another holiday season. Time does indeed fly. Seems like we just began this year. The story in Monday’s Courier brought home the reality that we’re on the eve of the holiday season. The story announced that the annual Christmas parade through Downtown Benton will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5. Maybe we’re having difficulty believing that the holiday season is just around the corner because of the mild weather we’ve had. Or maybe because the leaves are late turning for fall. Or maybe it’s simply because we don’t want to acknowledge that another year is speeding along! Alas, however, we are close. And while we all associate so many good things with the holiday season, there’s one occasion in Saline County that leaves most residents in awe each year. We’re talking about the Celebration of Lights, when the holiday lights adorning the Saline County Courthouse are turned on and remain on throughout the holidays. The display gives the unique Downtown Benton area added character and personality. So, while we may not be quite ready for another holiday season to be arriving so soon, we believe that we join residents throughout the county in looking forward with great anticipation to the Celebration of Lights. Today’s editorial was written by Whit Jones, editor of the Courier, on behalf of the newspaper’s editorial board.
