Virginia Wise

August 21, 2014

Virginia Wise, 89, passed away peacefully on August 19 at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock following injuries sustained last week in a fall.  She was married for 52 years to Hurdis Earl Wise, of Pensacola, FL, who pre-deceased her in 2005. Virginia was born in Booneville, one of six children of Stanley and Blanch Knight.  She graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway and taught elementary school in Arkansas and Florida in the 1940s and 1950s.  After marrying her husband and starting a family, they traveled extensively with Alcoa, living in Suriname, South America, Perth, Western Australia, as well Mobile, AL and Pittsburgh, PA.
Virginia was an enthusiastic member of the Benton Senior Center and an avid player of bean bag baseball on their “Benton Wildcats” team. She also was a member of Holland Chapel Baptist Church in Benton.  She enjoyed living in her own home and watching the birds and wildlife on her back porch.  She was extremely grateful for the loving support of the Caple family who became like a second family to her in recent years.
She is survived by their two daughters, Karen Wise of Potomac, MD and Kathryn Ellickson of Springfield, MO, and son, Douglas Wise of Jacksonville.  She is also survived by a sister, Irma Warters of Dallas, TX, a sister-in-law, Gwen Myers of Pensacola, FL, and five grandchildren, Emily Woodside, Terry Stone, David Wescott, Luke Ellickson, and Colt Wise.  She also is survived by her dear friend and companion, Emil Caple, of Benton.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, at Holland Chapel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Benton Senior Center, 210 Jefferson or Holland Chapel Baptist Church, 15523 Interstate 30, both of Benton, AR 72015.
