Walter Don Shoptaw

Walter Don Shoptaw, 87, of Prattsville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, at his home.
He was born Oct. 12, 1924, in the Belfast Community, the son of the late Walter Roy and Elby Buie Shoptaw.
He was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville, had retired as a supervisor from Alcoa and had proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed farming, camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Denson Shoptaw; a son, Bobby Lynn Shoptaw; and a great-grandson, Braden McCord Shoptaw.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Malindia Shoptaw of Paron; a brother, Lewis and wife Martha Shoptaw of Little Rock; three sisters, Natha Lee Stuckey and husband Lawrence of Prattsville, Bernice Heaton of Prattsville, and Doris Reynolds and husband Robert Reynolds of Bryant; grandchildren, Brandie Jones, Preston Shoptaw and wife Jennifer, and Brent Shoptaw; a great-grandchild, Eliot Jones; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Curtis Kyle and Don Goodman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville.
Visitation was to be held prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers were Allen Cooper, Walter Sanders, Chuck Bailey, Blake Carr, Josh Bowden, and Brad Mabry. Honorary pallbearers were David Buie, Rommie Smith and Poodle Bennings.
