Woman arrested Tuesday at state senator's home

September 6, 2012

A Little Rock woman was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly striking the head of state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson, R-Little Rock.
A Little Rock police report said officers responded to 38-year-old Hutchinson's home, where 39-year-old Julie McGee had locked herself in a bathroom.
McGee, reportedly a former girlfriend of Hutchinson, claimed that the senator had thrown her onto a couch, causing "a swollen lip, scratches to her wrists and redness to her left arm."
Hutchinson said he was struck on the left side of the head with a small preserved alligator head and officers noted that Hutchinson had a "bleeding wound" just above and behind the ear.
Both McGee and Hutchison reportedly declined medical treatment and were taken to a Little Rock Police Department facility for questioning.
"It was determined that the injuries to McGee were inconsistent with her statements and they did not appear to be contemporaneous with the current incident," the report said.
McGee was then taken to the Pulaski County jail and charged with third-degree domestic battery. Hutchinson was released with no charges.
"This has been an ongoing problem that I felt reached the point that I didn't have a choice but to call the police," Hutchinson told The Saline Courier. "I wish I could say more, but it looks like a strong possibility that I'll be a witness in this case. I think it would be wise that I reserve thoughts on this case right now because it's still an ongoing investigation."
As of press time, the Pulaski County Detention Facility website lists McGee as still being in custody with no bond having been set.
Hutchinson, a divorced father of three, served three terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives and won a state Senate seat in 2010. He is seeking re-election to his district position, which includes parts of Pulaski and Saline counties. He has no Democratic opponent on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The Courier will continue to report this case as it develops.
