2nd arrest made in shooting case: suspect taken in after leaving hospital

The man who last month allegedly shot himself on a stranger's front lawn on Millbrook Cove in Benton was arrested Friday, following his release from a local hospital.
Timothy Gauldin, 29, of Benton has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and filing a false police report.
A friend of Gauldin, 35-year-old Jason Gaunt of Benton, allegedly gave him the gun, according to police. He was arrested the day after the shooting and charged with furnishing a felon with a weapon.

Hearing set for today for Ark. treasurer

According to the Arkansas Department of Justice, no exact time has been set for the hearing in the extortion case of Arkansas Treasurer Martha Shoffner, but it should begin in the next 30 minutes or so. It will be in the court of U.S. Magistrate Judge H. David Young.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An affidavit filed in federal court alleges that Arkansas Treasurer Martha Shoffner repeatedly took cash payments from a broker who invested state money.

Historical societies to meet on Tuesday

The Bryant Historical Society will meet 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Boswell Library in Bryant.

The Haskell Historical Society will meet 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Haskell City Hall.

Winning numbers drawn in Powerball jackpot

DES MOINES, Iowa — Lottery officials say the winning numbers in a near-historic Powerball jackpot have been drawn.

They are: 10, 13, 14, 22, 52 and Powerball 11.

Officials say the latest Powerball jackpot figure results are still pending. They had estimated it at $600 million.

With four of every five possible combinations of Powerball numbers in play, someone is almost sure to win the game's highest jackpot. The problem, of course, is those same odds just about guarantee the lucky person won't be you.

Old Folks Singing scheduled in Tull

Current and former residents and friends of the Tull community will come together this coming Sunday to celebrate the 128th anniversary of Old Folks Singing.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church
The first Old Folks Singing took place on the third Sunday in May in 1885.
