The Bryant Hornets earned a seventh-place finish in the Cyclone Relays at Russellville Friday, earning 47.5 points in the 20-team field.
Fort Smith Southside won the event.
Troy Smith was the leading scorer for the Hornets, placing third in the high jump (6 feet), fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (41.99 seconds) and sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.28).
Coach Steve Oury said Smith "has really come on this year in the hurdle races. Coach Keith Dale does a great job working with all of our hurdlers, and Troy has worked extremely hard."
Caleb Thomas injured his hamstring competing in the triple jump, which then knocked him out of the 100-meter dash, "where he would have a chance to score at any meet," he said.
Oury said his "biggest concern is getting Caleb Thomas healthy."
"We also had some bad handoffs in the 400-meter relay that cost us a victory, but that can be corrected," Oury said.
Other scorers for the Hornets were Tanner Tolbert in the triple jump (fifth place, 41 feet 11 inches) and 100-meter dash (eighth, 11.53); Dillion Winfrey in the 200-meter dash (third, 22.91); James Glasper in the 400-meter dash (52.47); Kris Bazzelle in the high jump (tied for fourth, 5'10); Michael Smith in the 800-meter run (seventh, 2:04.67) and Luke Lindsley in the 3,200-meter run (seventh, 10:09.97).
The 400-meter relay team of Winfrey, Tolbert, Stephen Clark and Kris Bazzelle placed second with a time of 43.51, and the 1,600-meter relay team of Smith, Winfrey, Michael Smith and Glasper placed sixth with a time of 3:36.31.
The Hornets will compete Thursday at the Cabot Panther Relays.View more articles in:
