Although the first part of the game Thursday was close, eventually Watson Chapel pulled away from Bauxite.
At the end of five innings, Watson Chapel was ahead four runs, 14-8, but scored two in the sixth and six in the seventh to win 20-8.
“They won by a couple of touchdowns,” Bauxite head coach Wes Mode said. “Still, I was really pleased with our hitting, but I was disappointed in our defense.”
As a team, the Lady Miners batted 13 of 33, but committed five fielding errors behind sophomore Allie Beech, who pitched all seven innings for Bauxite, giving up 20 hits and walking eight batters.
“She was just wore out,” Mode said, “and we didn’t help her out much in the field.”
Offensively, Beech went 4-5 at the plate with three runs-batted-in. Sophomore Denise Harp was 2-3 with an RBI, and freshman Kati Daly was 3-4.
