The Benton boys and girls golf team earned a sweep over Lake Hamilton Tuesday at Longhills Golf Course.
Junior Grace Lile earned medalist after shooting a 42 over nine holes to lead the Lady Panthers to a 138 to 141 win.
“They played really well,” new coach Chad Pitts said. “I was proud of the way they played, especially this early in the season and with as young as we are.”
Sophomore Karli Lipinski shot a 47 and Kaylen Presnall shot a 49.
“I was really proud of the way they played,” Pitts said. “If we shoot a 138 on nine holes every time than we should be able to compete for a state title.
“I was really surprised with some of our scores.”
Braxton Chumley shot a 54, Drew Melton a 63, Jenna Jameson a 56, Kayla Payne a 52, Daphne Bono a 54, and Lauren Manis a 68.
The boys team defeated Lake Hamilton 317 to 321 over 18 holes.
Junior Austin Eoff earned medalist with a 67 to lead the team.
“Our boys played well,” Pitts said. “Nate Smith wasn’t able to play [Tuesday] due to illness and he is usually our number two golfer.
“I was really proud of Cameron Treece. He stepped up and had a great round.” Keith Hammer shot a 84 and Treece shot a 76. Colton Lee shot a 93 and Matthew Perry shot a 90.
“Austin had a tremendous round,” Pitts said.
The junior varsity boys team played 15 holes and defeated Lake Hamilton 300 to 330. Josh Pittman led the squad with a 68.
