The Bryant Hornets’ tennis team defeated the Pine Bluff Zebras on Thursday in Pine Bluff. The Lady Hornets swept its single’s matches 2-0 and split its double’s matches 1-1. The Hornets’ boys swept its singles matches 2-0, but were swept 0-2 in its doubles matches.
Bryant Hornets coach Steve Wilson said senior Callie Hogancamp and sophomore Whitney Butler both played well for their second victories of the year.
Hogancamp defeated Toreia Harris 8-1 in Girls 1 singles and Butler beat Brittney Sargent 8-0 in Girls 2 singles.
Wilson said senior Allie Hogancamp and junior Sara Lequieu came from behind to win a long doubles match 9-7 in the Girls 2 doubles. In the Girls 1 doubles, seniors Kristen Dudley and Autumn Rouse were beaten 3-8 by Ajia Richardson and Kye Richardson.
For the Bryant boys, junior Cade Howard defeated Ladarius Washington in straight sets 8-0 in Boys 1 singles, and junior Nick Ross beat Tre Harris 8-6 in Boys 2 singles.
“Cade and Nick both played well and won for the first time this year,” Wilson said. “Cade looked sharp and Nick hung tough to win a match in which most games were close.”
In boys’ doubles, juniors Dalton Lane and Lane Ricardo lost to Ladarius Washington and Torez Williams 4-8 and junior Spencer Sullivan and sophomore Noah Hargis lost 5-8 to Ryan Green and Acee Milon.
