The Bryant Lady Hornets’ volleyball team defeated the Cabot Lady Panthers 3-0 in 7A Central conference action. The Lady Hornets took the first game easily 25-9, but the Lady Panthers gave the team a tougher match in games two (27-25) and three (25-22).
“Tonight’s win was definitely the pick-me-up the girls needed after Tuesday,” Bryant coach Beth Solomon said. “This puts us back on the positive side as far as our record in conference.”
“We’ll keep building on this through next week,” she said.
The Lady Hornets (3-2, 2-1 7A Central) lost to the Mount St. Mary’s Belles 3-1 on Tuesday after taking the first game 25-22. Inconsistencies and errors led to the team losing the next three sets.
“The big difference tonight was our middle blockers,” Solomon said. “Brianna White and Alyssa Anderson really stepped up on blocking for us tonight, which led us to our three-game victory.
White, a senior, had six blocks in the match, and the junior Anderson added three blocked shots to go with seven kills. White led the team with 10 kills.
“We’ve been working hard on putting the great passing with the great hitting and blocking, and tonight it worked,” Solomon said. “We still are working on being more consistent, as we had a few down times in Game 2 tonight.”
Solomon said the inconsistencies, which have haunted the team the past three seasons, were a big reason for the close games in the last two sets.
Junior setter Hannah Rice led the Lady Panthers with 25 assists and 12 digs, while her twin sister McKenzie added seven kills and six digs. Senior Peyton Thacker and junior Brooke Howell had four kills each, and senior Taylor West added five digs.
“I’m proud of the way the girls played tonight,” Solomon said.
The Lady Hornets’ junior varsity team beat Cabot’s junior varsity squad 2-0 (25-19, 25-23), led by junior Carley Choate’s 17 assists. Junior Kaylon Wilson had seven digs to lead Bryant. Courtney Davidson had five digs, while sophomore Aubree Allen had five kills to lead the team. Allen and Davidson also aced four serves apiece.
