The Benton boys and girls golf team split with Lake Hamilton Tuesday as the Lady Panthers lost 133-131 and the Panthers defeated Lake Hamilton 294 to 318.
Grace Lile and Austin Eoff earned medalist with a score of 36 and 65 respectively.
“The girls are getting better and they are improving, its just not showing up in the results,” coach Chad Pitts said. “We are playing better golf, but the people we are playing are playing good too.”
Daphne Bono shot a 48, Kayla Payne shot a 49, Karli Lipinski 52, Drew Melton a 53, Jenna Jamison a 54, and Braxton Chumley a 57.
“Lake Hamilton just had a better round and they were able to edge us out,” Pitts said.
For the Panthers, Nate Smith shot a 68, Keith Hammer shot a 79, Cameron Treece shot a 82 and Coulton Lee shot a 87.
“Our boys had a great night last night,” Pitts said. “Everybody played well. If they could bring us those scores at state, we will have a good chance of winning or at least being in the top three.”
For the JV team, Matthew Perry shot a 89, Josh Pittman a 81, Justin lee a 95 and Luke Jamison a 93.
Last year, the Benton boys golf team finished in fourth place at the state tournament. The 6A South didn’t have a conference tournament, instead they take whoever finished the best in the first day of the state tournament and rank them that way.
El Dorado won the conference and Jonesboro won the state tournament.
Benton were state champs in 2008 at Searcy and again in 2009 at El Dorado.
