The Bryant Hornets and Lady Hornets’ tennis team had a rough time with Mount St. Mary’s Belles and the Little Rock Catholic Rockets on Tuesday at Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock.
The Lady Hornets took home one win in singles’ play and were swept in doubles play, while the Hornets won just one set for the Boys’ 1 and 2 matches, getting swept in both singles and doubles play.
Sophomore Whitney Butler picked up Bryant’s only win, defeating Samantha Cook 8-3 in Girls 2 singles. Senior Callie Hogancamp lost to Mary Menz 4-8 in Girls 1 singles.
“I thought all the girls played real well but Whitney was the only one able to pull out a win,” Bryant Coach Steve Wilson said.
“Callie had a very tough opponent and both girls doubles teams went to an extra game.”
The Lady Hornets went 0-2 in doubles’ play as seniors Kristen Dudley and Autumn Rouse lost to Layton Dudley and Ce Ce Blanton 7-9 in Girls 1. Allie Hogancamp, Callie’s twin sister, and junior Sara Lequieu also lost 7-9, but they were defeated by Madeline Whitacre and Annie Carter in Girls 2 doubles.
The Hornets went 0-2 in singles and doubles play with junior Cade Howard and Nick Ross both losing 0-8 to Michael Towne and Reid Birch in Boys 1 and 2 singles.
“Cade played every game tough,” Wilson said.
Juniors Dalton Lane and Lane Ricardo won the only set of the match for the boys, losing 1-8 versus Haynes Burnside and Adam Korenblat.
Junior Spencer Sullivan and sophomore Noah Hargis were swept in straight sets 0-8 to Adam Nick and Josh Brown in Boys 2 doubles.
In other girls’ action, sophomore Emma Patrick and Butler defeated Porter Pryor and Meryl Ensminger 8-6, Allie Hogancamp and Lequieu beat Alex Glen and Kathleen Clark 8-6, and senior Erica Pounders lost 1-8 to Meg Bumpers.
In other boys’ play, sophomore Caleb Hixon and junior Nick Ross lost to Russell Gordon and Joseph Wren 4-8, Howard and Ricardo were beaten by Wyatt Miller and Nelson McCain 8-10, and Sullivan and Hargis lost to Jackson Gammill and Michel Hewitt 3-8.
The Bryant tennis team plays next against Van Buren at 3:30 on Thursday at Rebsamen Tennis Center.
